Reviews - Ubuntu Linux

Ubuntu

There are several reasons why some linux distros are better than others.

Ubuntu has a package manager which automatically boosts it above a lot of
other distros in many peoples eyes. The package manager allows you to install
programs and dependents easily. An add or remove programs option also comes
with Ubuntu.

Ubuntu also comes with the gnome GUI which I think is very clean and crisp. Many
of the things you need to operate a desktop come preinstalled on ubuntu. A standard
Ubuntu install contains a selection of useful applications. In the Applications menu
you will find OpenOffice 2.0 for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations,
Gimp for image editing and more.

For all your personal information management needs, Evolution is there. Whether
you need to simply check you email, create a calendar, or search for a contact,
Evolution can help you. Evolution also can connect to an Microsoft Exchange or other
mail server, for an easier transition to Ubuntu.

Documentation is available in the desktop help browser and on-line at help.ubuntu.com.
A range of support services is also available both as free community-based support via
forums, chat and mailing lists in many languages as well as paid commercial
support services.

Over all, Ubuntu is my favorite distro of linux so far. It easy to install and use.
The package manager makes it easy to get new software. Automatic updates are
also a good thing. Gnome takes the cake here too.

I would recommend it to the Linux noob with no doubts.
